Propriano area in South Corsica

THE SURROUNDING AREA

The Valinco-Sartenais region has many reminders of the past. From the Neolithic era to the Middle Ages, many sites are renowned for their natural beauty and their history. The Cauria and Palaghju stones, the "torre de Cucuruzzu", the Genoese towers and Romanesque churches as well as the medieval cities of Sartène Bonifacio take you back to an eventful past.

All these sites are under an hour away from Propriano, and combine hiking through nature with a discovery of the island's history.

BEACHES

5 minutes walk away from the complex, the Corsaire, Lido and Mancinu beaches are watched by lifeguards, for safe and fun bathing for children and adults, and you can relax in the huts and restaurant.

A bit further, 1KM away on the "Beach Path", you will get to the Arena Bianca, a fitting name for the white sandy beach, and the long, wild beach of Capu Laurosu, that stretches from the lighthouse to the estuary of the Rizzanese, facing the open sea.

Over 2 km long, this wide beach gives way to charming rocky coves of crystal-clear and Fish-rich water. It also has a huge free car park.

7 km South, towards Campomoro, Portigliolu beach extends it. Here, you can rent canoes, small sailing boats, windsurfing boards, buoys. Sailing classes adapted to young and old.

The entire north shore of Valinco is dotted with enticing beaches, with sand always finer than the previous one: Marinca, la Tour, la Crique, Abbartello, up to Porto Pollo, Cupabia and Cala d’Orzu!

The Gulf of Valinco is the most open and deep in Corsica, from the Campo Moro Tower to the Porto Pollo, the coast is remarkably rich and the rocky cliffs, coves, bays, and small islands make it a great place for all sea activities.

YACHTING AND SAILING

Boat trips and boat rental

Opposite Casa Sultana, on the small quay, Découvertes naturelles (www.decouvertes-naturelles.net) takes you on trips to explore ¾ of the western coast, its coves, beaches and wild calanques, with swimming stops and commentary on the wildlife and plants and the history of the region.

Promenade en Mer Valinco organises "friendly picnic excursions" on a catamaran for 12 people, with stops for snorkelling. This company also offers excursions on a motor boat. The Mer et Maquis excursion combines a visit of the gulf and a walk along the coast.

Several boat, yacht and jet ski rental companies (www.locanautic.com), (www.locamarine.com, +33(0) 624 567 701) offer half-days to a week of exploration and fun a stone's throw away from your apartment, from April to October!

Diving

The Valinco Gulf has an excellent reputation for scuba diving. Its deep drop on the coast side up to Propriano, the underwater terrain, more craggy and chaotic than the rest of the Western coast, its depth that reaches 800m in the middle of the Gulf, the abundance of wildlife (gorgonians, parazoanthus, red coral), are just a few examples of the features of this spot, unequalled in the rest of the Mediterranean.

The Propriano nautical centres (www.plonger-en-corse.com) organise diving for beginners from Portigliolo and Cala Muretta , half-way Portigliolo and Campomoro.
The best dives are mostly at the exit of the Gulf, the North and South, near the shore, on the rock faces.
Dives outside the Gulf are also possible, especially near the Cap Senetosa area.
